Bienvenue!
A little about me!
Hello everyone! My name is Richa. This is a portfolio that shows the CAS components that I have been taking this year. This is a platform to show my progress and challenges that I will be overtaking and hopefully it will all enrich you and make a change in your local community or in your own lives. CAS has allowed me to take challenges and take new steps in order to enhance my personality and also make changes in my life to change some of the current habits that I have. This year (2015-2016) I have taken multiple activities that have allowed me to step out a be a leader in the IST community and also learn much more about myself and the surrounding environment. The activities I have taken up this year are deeply rooted in my interests or in many ways will help me improve myself as an individual to be more knowledgeable and open-minded.
The activities I have taken part in this year is Twiga running club (in school). Running is a strength that I always wanted to improve on in order to build my stamina and change my current lifestyle to remain fit and healthy. In 8th grade during the biathlon trial, I used to wear out completely when it was the time to run, I had no stamina and I breathed heavily in a short amount of time. This year I wanted to work my hardest in achieving my goals and exerting my body to work myself as a machine.
In addition to this, I also joined Strength and conditioning, where it allowed me to further increase the physical exertion to challenge myself and test my body. I am changing my current habits in order to live a more balanced life. This will allow me to fully balance my IB life and will be a platform to reduce stress and cause me to sleep earlier.
Next I decided to face the worst of my weaknesses which was MUN (Model United Nations). I have almost always dreaded public speaking whether it was speaking in front of the class or to just articulate my thoughts on the spot. MUN always fascinated me because it looked at global issues and tackling such issues. I could use my creativity to ponder on solutions in order to combat such issues. MUN has allowed people to step out of their comfort zone and improvise on the spot which requires quick thinking. This will hopefully allow me to step out of my "timid" self and express myself freely.
Furthermore, I chose to do an activity called "Ghoshti" which in gujarati means discussions. Ghoshti was a way for me to explore the greater aspect of my religion and culture. Since I was young I never knew or understood much of my religion and never put forth an effort to do so. For the past couple of months I have started this in order to understand the greatness of my religion and understand why there are certain rules/restrictions and why they exist. It will creatively allow me to explore how the spirituality can be applied in life to live a righteous and humble life like our previous saints.
Lastly, I chose the activity that has always been very close to my heart and has always been an interest called Mother Teresa Home. I began the Mother Teresa Service activity in Grade 5 where we just visited the home to play with the kids. As I got into the activity in 9th grade it remained the same and our CAS group finally began to take action in 10th grade where our contribution benefitted the home and this year as the leader of the CAS it will allow me to develop leadership skills and also work with other individuals to make a great difference in the home.
